There was 237 participants, and the winner of the 21 and under Junior Open Chess Championship moves on to the U.S. Junior Championship Closed where participants need to qualify. According to Francisco Guadalupe, National Tournament Director, "Chess is a mental game, and it helps develop mind. Studies show students who play chess have improved math skills.
